It's hard to find a balance between picking up pretty things to admire in your home, and actually filling it with STUFF. I know I drive the Old Man bonkers with it.
I do try to enjoy things for a little while and then pass them on or re-donate them, but I'm essentially a hoarder so letting go is difficult. It's pathological.
Sometimes I just see something that I HAVE to have, and when it's only a quid it's hard to refuse.
My daughter is currently obsessed with mermaids (or is that me? The lines blur a little sometimes). We have Mermaid bath times, crafting and dressing up. She went to school for World Book Day as the Singing Mermaid recently, and her poor costume took a battering. Apparently it's tough for a mermaid at school, kids keep treading on your tail. Her wonderful teacher came into school the next week and gifted her a replacement outfit as she'd been clearing out her daughter's room, wasn't that kind?
So when I saw these, I had to get them for....mermaid tea parties!!
And when I got them home and showed Ruby, she instantly exclaimed the same - like mother like daughter!
Funnily enough, I didn't buy these at the seaside last week, I actually bought them in a local charity shop at the weekend.
I saw the other week, the brilliant Family Days, Tried and Tested had made a little small world edible beach, so inspired by that we'll be having crushed ginger biscuit sand and turquoise lime jelly for pudding today!
Suffice to say, the Old Man thinks I've completely lost the plot, and I suspect if I try and bring tat like this home again, he may just leave me.
How do you control your second-hand habit? Or don't you?!
I'd love you to grab the badge and link up.

Our house is full of crap/treasure and I wouldnt have it any other way! Love those, so pretty- and can I come round for pudding? x
ReplyDeleteoh I love those. I am so clumsy I would break them in a second but I LOVE the idea of a mermaid tea party!!
ReplyDeleteThese are so so pretty. The problem I have is that I'm very uncreative so I see things I love all the time but never know how to display/what to do. It just ends up looking messy. Therefore I have to be minimalist :( My best friend is the total opposite - I have no idea how she cleans but her home is always amazingly quirky and 'just so' without looking messy or cramped.
ReplyDeleteSee I'm loving these too, in fact I think they are the prettiest spoon I ever did see! Mermaid teaparty invitation in the post please!
ReplyDeleteOMG they are ace i would have snapped them up too
ReplyDeleteJust brilliant. My girls would love them!
ReplyDeleteI think you're allowed the occasional impulse buy! It's still saving the planet compared to buying everything new!
ReplyDeleteI remember the Mermaid phase ;) (not that it ever passes, you just learn to hide it until pretty spoons like this come your way!) Gorgeous Liz, you had to snap them up. Who needs a hubby anyway (lol) ;)
ReplyDeleteOh these are adorable! The boys were never keen on mermaids - I think they're beautiful (think Daryl Hannah) x
ReplyDeleteand the Cher film ;) x
Deleteso pretty, Erin would love me to find things like this!
ReplyDeleteOoh those are so unusual!!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE THESE!! Sod saving them for a mermaid party, i want them for everyday teatime!
ReplyDeleteYou are feeding her imagination, there is no other justification needed here!
ReplyDeleteI seem to have gone the other way with my habit and I'm now looking for things that I must have given back to charity in the move last year, much to my girls dislike! Mich x
ReplyDeleteI love reading about your amazing finds!
ReplyDeleteThey are too cute, Lizzie! What an awesome fun find :) xx
ReplyDeleteI love love love them! x
ReplyDeleteI sooooooo wish I had a little girl so I could have mermaid tea parties as well. On second thoughts, my eldest son likes anything to do with "under the sea".
ReplyDeleteI have one, (little girl that is) who loves tea parties! I love the spoons, so unusual.
ReplyDeletei never seen cutlery like this - i think as long as they bring joy to your little girl and you they are a justified purchase.
